Welcome to my BioDiesel page :)

Hello! :)

Welcome to Scully's BioDiesel site. Here's a brief introduction into my greasy world ;).

I am a Graduate student and Environmental Scientist interested in Sustainability issues but also share a passion for my Volkswagen. Several years ago while doing my Undergrad degree at Brock, I read an article about a guy who fueled his Mk1 Diesel Jetta with veggie oil and thought that was a great idea. I started doing my research although I was driving a 1974 Beetle at the time (on 10% ethanol though ;)). However, I was determined to get back into the Diesel game and learn more about a sustainable fuel.

I have decided that I wish to pursue my PhD (when I can finally come up with a proposal! ;)) and write my Thesis on some aspect of alternative fuels and the philosophical and political ramifications of the transition to a more sustainable economy (one which includes BioFuels.)

I figured a good way to learn more about this fuel and its practical application was to start making it and using it!

Which brings us here!

My 1981 VW Rabbit:
the Bio-Bunny :)

My first ever 1l sample batch of BioDiesel (Dec. 2004)
Not bad for someone who hated GeoChem class ;)

So I finally made the practical journey into making BioDiesel; beginning with small batches and finally progressing to my very own "Appleseed Processor"

(brought to you by the good people at the Collaborative BioDiesel Tutorial! without whom I surely would have blown myself up by now!! :o )

Special thanks to my Dad for adapting the design and building my Appleseed Processor! I am now in the process of setting up a solar-heated oil pre-heat station and wash tank.
